Question

How to Handle Overstock Locations

In our warehouse our lower shelves are Forward Pick locations and upper shelves are Reserve Stock. We keep a supply of all inventory in the Forward Pick locations but any overstock that won’t fit below will go to the Reserve Stock locations. Both location types have their respective inventory marked Include in Qty Available but only the Forward Pick locations are marked as Sales Allowed. This allows a sales order to be created regardless of inventory location but will prevent the Shipment/Picklist creation if doing so would direct a picker to a Reserve Stock location.

This is where the pain point is introduced. We currently utilize the “Tasks” feature in Acumatica to direct our warehouse mobile users to transfer items from Reserve Stock to Forward Pick so that shipments containing affected items can be created.

Ideally we would like a proper means of creating a Transfer Order which would direct a warehouse user to transfer the items between locations.

I’m wondering if this is already an option that I’m just missing? If not how do other users that utilize a Forward Pick and Reserve Stock system currently manage similar inventory scenarios within Acumatica?

Can you clarify what you mean by “proper means”? What’s not working with the standard transfer?

The problem is we’re essentially creating a sticky note with a list of items that need to be transferred from Reserve to Forward stock and handing that to the warehouse operators. An ideal solution would be to create a guided Transfer Order that would show up on their devices similar to Pick Pack Ship shipments.

Hi @dmerrill, there is an Idea on Community for Automated Bin Replenishment:

This is a universal need - the low # of votes doesn’t reflect the demand for this capability.  We do have a Product Roadmap backlog item for this request.

Can we reach out to you to include you in our requirements gathering activity?

Dana

Yes that sounds like exactly what we need. I would be very interested in giving feedback for this project.

We ran into a similar issue, although on a fairly small scale - our situation was easy enough to manage with setting up transfers manually and asking pickers to execute

To help the team I built a GI that looks at the INLocationStatus for the whole warehouse as well as status at just the Default Ship Location with a condition LocationStatus QtyAvail is greater than 0

I then created a column to indicated True/False to review if the location is the Default Shipping Location as well as another True/False if the Qty at the Default Ship Location was below our Min on the item replenishment

On the inquiry, we then filter for

  • DefaultShip Location is not Empty
  • Is DefaultShip Location = FALSE
  • DefaultShip<MIN = TRUE

This gives us a list of all warehouse locations other than the default shipping location with a quantity available where the total qty at the default location is below the item’s minimum for replenishment

For our team - a dashboard widget alerts them to any items that pop up here over the course of the week and they setup manual transfers to rebalance stock. I’m sure that with some tweaks to something similar, you could setup another replenishment class just for transfers and possibly get the GI linked to an import scenario for transfer type SOs depending on scale
