CRM link to Field Services

I would like to see the ability to create a Service Order for Field Services from an Opportunity within CRM.

Business Case:
A customer calls in for a service, a salesman up-sales while on-site, and for many other reasons an Opportunity is created.  This opportunity is important for tracking for sales personnel and obviously impacts their commissions.  Since this Opportunity is not a long term project, but is more so a service that is needed then they would not want to convert this opportunity to a project.  They would want to create a Service Order.

Proposed Solution:

Add the ability to Create a Service Order in addition to the Creating a Project.

  1. How would this effect Project Accounting in the background in regards to not requiring an Allocation (since the invoice was generated from Field Services)?
  2. How to differentiate Opportunities that created a Project/Service Order?
  3. Currently the solution is to create a project for every single service order and that will increase the number of projects to a huge amount that complicates processes within the business.

On 2018R2 we can now create Service Orders from the Opportunities, taking into consideration the Document Details tab. This will allow the user to create sales quotes and then create a service order document for the opportunity.
