Show where specific Generic Inquiry is used across the system

Dear partners and customers,

We need your feedback on whether this idea makes sense to you.

As you know, many entities in the system use Generic Inquiries as a data source. Examples of such entities include, but not limited to:

  • Widgets on Dashboards
  • Pivot Tables
  • Business Events
  • Export Scenarios
  • Lists as Entry Points
  • Marketing Lists
  • Other Generic Inquiries (e.g., navigation from one inquiry to another)

Since the changes in underlying Generic Inquiry could change the behavior of such entities or even break them, it might be helpful to see the list of objects that use selected Generic Inquiry.

For example, it can be done as a new tab on the Generic Inquiry Designer screen (SM208000) that shows the list in the following format:

Entity Type Name
Widget Support Manager / Open Cases
Pivot Table Case Summary
... ...
Generic Inquiry CR-Cases

Links will lead to the selected entity on a corresponding maintenance screen.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

I was just about to submit a request for this exact thing. In engineering design, a "where-used" is very useful so you can be sure changing a design doesn't have unintending consequences. Resolving unintended consequences from GI changes currently takes up a lot of time! A GI where-used would be incredibly helpful

Yes, yes, yes.  I am manually tracking all of this right now in the notes section.

This will be very helpful. Especially with the new business events being based on GI, that is something you wouldn't necessarily realize broke until many notifications too late. So it would be great for keeping track and being thorough when making changes to GI's
