Stock Item Cost Not Appearing on Bill of Material

Any idea why the average cost of each stock item doesn’t pull through to the BOM Unit Cost?  Anybody know how I can get this pulled in?

This is actually something I have been working on recently and have some questions myself. But to answer your question, you need to at least have a Last Cost in the system for this value to populate. You can adjust in some inventory with a value to populate this field. You might also have to perform “Cost Roll” afterwards if you have already saved this BOM and want it to update.

My issue with this is the fact that I need to adjust in Inventory with a Cost or have purchased material at some cost so that we can populate the “Last Cost”. If you create a new item the Last Cost is greyed out but after you adjust in inventory the Last Cost field is editable. When creating new products with new materials that have never been purchased before, I am anticipating that this will be a problem.

Thank you.  I had to to a Cost Roll and then everything appeared.

Regarding the last cost issue - I had the same issue with Average Cost so I did a mass Inventory Adjustment of +1 with the correct cost and then a mass Inventory Adjustment of -1 to bring the QOH back to zero.  This may work to unlock the Last Cost field.

You are correct, it does unlock the Last Cost field when you do that. I think the issue is actually how the BOM Cost Summary roll up is working.

In the Estimating module when you enter a Unit Cost for the material it correctly rolls up and tells you an accurate Total Cost. When you do the same via Bill of Materials and then use Calculate BOM Cost it does not calculate correctly. The Material Cost is $0 unless it is being pulled from the Average or Last Cost.

Unit Cost entered at the BOM level

Unit Cost driven from Average Cost

Material Cost driven from manual Unit Cost on the Estimate Operation

I would be okay with the Last Cost field if the BOM Cost Summary calculated correctly when a manual Unit Cost was entered. I will probably log a ticket for that instead.

I could be wrong, but I think manually entering a unit cost at the BOM level is only good for that BOM, and when you Roll Cost it recalculates all unit costs so it overwrites it with zero.
